No Madison Same-Day Feed
No official Madison County, North Carolina 24-hour release list, current jail roster, released-person archive, or verified jail-information app was found in the official channels reviewed. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office page identifies Sheriff Buddy Harwood and provides contact and public-record request routes, but it does not publish a rolling list of people who left Madison County Detention Center today. Its general press releases are agency news, not custody-release entries.
That absence matters. There is no local display from which to claim listed fields, photographs, refresh times, or a 24-hour retention period. A same-day event may also be too new for a status service or court portal. The answer must come from the responsible sources, not from an assumed feed.

For a person believed to have left Madison County Detention Center within the last day, use the sources in time order. Each one answers a different question. - Search NC SAVAN through VINELink by name or jail identifier. Match the reporting agency and identifiers before relying on a status.
- Send the Sheriff public-record request for the named booking and release event, or for releases within a precise date and time range.
- Use eCourts Portal Smart Search or the Madison County Clerk to find the signed release order, bond change, dismissal, judgment, or later hearing.
- If the Sheriff identifies a transfer, continue with the named receiving agency. Do not describe the jail exit as community release unless the disposition supports it.

Request Madison Release Fields

Madison’s Written Records Route
The Sheriff’s records policy and form direct written requests to the designated public-records processor at Madison County Sheriff, 348 Medical Park Drive, Marshall, NC 28753, or to mcsopublicrecordsrequest@madisoncountync.gov. Named staff can change, so check the current form before sending it. A filing occurs when receipt is confirmed.
The office says it typically acknowledges a request within two business days. A routine request normally receives a follow-up within five business days, but that follow-up may provide records, seek clarity, estimate more time, identify a charge, or explain a denial. Submissions after 5 p.m. count as received on the next business day. That timing means a written request is strong documentary proof, but not an instant same-day status tool.
Small email attachments up to 10 MB and download links carry no duplication charge under the policy. Paper copies cost $0.03 per single-sided letter page or $0.05 per double-sided page. Extraordinary work may cost $20 per hour in six-minute increments. Inspection occurs by appointment, generally for no more than two hours in a day, and documents are held for 14 calendar days after notice.
Note: Sheriff requests are not continuing, so a later Madison County release event requires a separate new written request.
Madison District 35 Release Orders
Madison County falls within District 35’s five-county pretrial-release policy, effective December 1, 2025. The policy distinguishes unsecured bond, custody release, secured bond, and secured bond with electronic house arrest. These terms describe different paths out of the jail, but none proves that the criminal case ended.
An unsecured bond permits release under the obligations in the order without secured value posted first. A custody release places the person with an individual or organization that accepts supervisory responsibility. Electronic house arrest is physical release with location restrictions. A secured bond requires approved security. The District 35 policy contains suggested amounts, but the signed order for the individual controls the actual terms.
Pair that order with the Sheriff’s time-stamped release record. The court document can explain the authorized path, while the jail document can show when custody changed.
Release or Madison Transfer
Leaving Madison County Detention Center does not always mean returning to the community. A person can post bond, receive a court-authorized release, or complete a short local term. The jail can also transfer someone to the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, another county jail, the U.S. Marshals Service, ICE, a hospital, or another custodian.

A current jail roster, even if one later becomes available, would answer who remains held. It would not by itself explain why a missing person left, when the event occurred, or who received the person.
Madison Release Transportation Planning
Madison County’s rural setting can make travel after release a practical concern. The Madison County Transportation Authority describes registration and advance-scheduled service during weekday hours. It does not advertise a fixed jail stop or guarantee an on-demand pickup when someone is discharged.

Call 828-649-0729 before relying on the service. Confirm registration, eligibility, pickup feasibility, timing, and fare. A planned ride should be based on a confirmed release event, since a projected time can change and a transfer may send the person somewhere else.
Verify Madison County Release Results
Search results for “Madison County jail releases” often mix records from counties with the same name in Alabama, Nebraska, Mississippi, Ohio, Kentucky, New York, and other states. An official-looking roster or app can therefore concern a different agency. Check for “North Carolina,” the madisoncountync.gov domain, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, and the Marshall address before treating a result as local.
No Sheriff jail app was verified for Madison release records or booking images. A Sheriff-branded app found in broad searching was not linked by the official county page, and its store description did not establish a recent-release function. That is not enough to use it as proof of a local same-day event.

Read Madison SAVAN Events
NC SAVAN links participating county jail and state prison data, so the reporting agency must be read with the status. A Madison County event describes the county custodian’s change. An NCDAC event describes the state correctional system. A Madison “released” result followed by an active NCDAC record can reflect transfer into state custody rather than conflicting data.
Notification registration is best used before the expected event. Search for the correct person, compare identifiers, select an available phone, text, email, or TTY option, and follow the registration prompts. Telephone notices use a four-digit PIN to acknowledge the call. That PIN confirms receipt of the alert; it does not unlock a court or jail record.
A status notice may establish that the reporting agency recorded a custody change, but it may not preserve the exact historical time, release basis, or destination. Request the Sheriff’s source record when those details matter. If the notice says release with supervision, check the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction history and supervision information. A legacy parole entry may also require a decision record from the North Carolina Post-Release Supervision and Parole Commission.
When Madison Release Dates Drift
A person may have left late the prior day, a family estimate may be off, or a status source may update after the event. In that case, use the Jail Releases: 72 Hours process and request a three-day interval. It is still a records-request method, not a live county feed.
